Form 1099-R

What is Form 1099-R?

Form 1099-R is the IRS information return that custodians file when you take a distribution from your Gold IRA. The form reports the gross distribution amount, the taxable portion, any federal income tax withheld, and a distribution code that identifies the type (normal, early, rollover, etc.). The custodian sends Form 1099-R by January 31 of the year following the distribution.

Why does form 1099-r matter for Gold IRA investors?

Form 1099-R determines what you owe in income tax on Gold IRA distributions. Common errors include incorrect distribution codes (which can trigger unexpected penalties) and missing rollover indications (which can cause the IRS to treat a rollover as a taxable distribution). Verify each Form 1099-R against your records before filing your tax return.
