Beneficiary
What is Beneficiary?
A beneficiary is the person or entity designated to receive the assets of your Gold IRA upon your death. IRAs use beneficiary designations rather than will provisions — the designation on file with the custodian overrides any contrary will language. Beneficiary categories include spouse, eligible designated beneficiary (EDB), and non-spouse non-EDB, each with different distribution rules under the SECURE Act.
Why does beneficiary matter for Gold IRA investors?
Gold IRA beneficiary designations control inheritance directly, bypassing probate. An outdated beneficiary form (former spouse, deceased relative) can cause assets to flow incorrectly. The SECURE Act 10-year distribution rule for non-spouse beneficiaries makes beneficiary planning more important than under prior law. Update the form after marriage, divorce, births, and deaths.
